Why Governance Comes First
When Microsoft 365 AI features summarize email or files, they operate within the same boundaries as the signed-in user. If shared drives are too open, or guest access is too broad, AI does not magically fix that—it surfaces what people can already reach.
Identity and Access
Enforce MFA for every user, prioritize conditional access for risky sign-ins, and tighten guest collaboration so external sharing matches policy. Review who has admin roles in Entra ID and Microsoft 365 regularly.
Data Boundaries
Label or classify highly sensitive locations (HR, legal, finance). Use SharePoint and Teams permissions that follow least privilege, and retire legacy shared folders that pre-date your current team structure.
Audit and Training
Document which Copilot or AI features you enable, for whom, and how incidents are reported. Short, practical training helps staff understand what not to paste into prompts.
