Start With Identity
Every zero-trust roadmap begins with MFA, lifecycle management for joiners and leavers, and clear ownership of admin roles in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. If you only do one thing, enforce MFA on every account—including contractors.
Devices and Endpoints
Know which laptops and phones access company data, keep them patched, and use endpoint detection where budget allows. Personal devices should not reach sensitive shares without enrollment and policy.
Network Segmentation at SMB Scale
Separate guest Wi-Fi from internal VLANs, restrict server and backup paths with firewall rules, and document what is allowed between zones. You do not need a full SASE rollout to get meaningful isolation.
